Here are a number of stills I have collected from various sources. Some are actual
Universal publicity photos (bearing a number in the lower left or right hand corner);
others are stills taken from the film itself.
Using some of the key questions of media literacy, a teacher might have her students
consider each photograph by asking:
– what is the purpose of each photo?; how might each be used?
– why was each framed in this manner? could it have been framed differently?
– is anything important left out of the frame?
– what does each photo say about the setting or character ?
– what do the clothes they’re wearing communicate?
(social status, occupation)
– what can you glean from their expressions?
(happy, sad, fearful, loving, hateful, reflective, worried, frustrated, neutral )
