David Barragan Lesson Plan
Grade: 9
Subject: ELA
Coronavirus News
For this lesson plan, we will be going over various Covid-19 sources to evaluate them as a class
to determine if it is a fact or fake news.
Standards
CCSSCCRA.R.10
Read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently.
CCSSCCRA.R.9
Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or
to compare the approaches the authors take.
Materials
● Chromebook
● Five different media sources (News, Youtube, Podcast, and Facebook)
● Worksheet to write down answers
Lesson Steps
Starting at the beginning of class, I will ask my students what they know about Covid-19
and share it with their group.
After layout a different source at each group.
Students may need headphones to listen/watch the source.
Students will have a worksheet to check off their list for credible sources.
Then that will help them decide if it is credible or face news.
Students will repeat four more times, going around to different groups of tables.
In the end, we will discuss each source as a class and find out what they discovered.
This will create discussions on why it is that or why not.
We will then see how many they got right and how many they got wrong.
