The first of four chapters (excerpts from Frank W Baker’s new book,\u00a0“We Survived The Holocaust The Bluma and Felix Goldberg Story<\/a><\/em>),” was published April 28, 2022 in The State newspaper. The excerpts are an exclusive to the Columbia SC newspaper. Subsequent chapters are to be published April 29, 30 and May 1.<\/p>\n

The “graphic novel”–aimed at a young adult audience–tells the harrowing story of two young Polish Jews caught up in the Holocaust and how they miraculously survived and eventually made their way to South Carolina.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to reach and educate young people about the Goldbergs, the Holocaust, and antisemitism,” said Baker\u00a0 “because it appears many of today’s young people have demonstrated a lack of essential knowledge about Hitler’s Final Solution.”<\/p>\n

The book will officially be unveiled in July at the annual conference of the International Association of School Librarians, gathering on the USC campus.<\/p>\n

The graphic novel was an outgrowth\u00a0of the educational website,\u00a0Stories of Survival<\/a>, which Baker created in 2020.<\/p>\n
