2016 Photos of The Year<\/strong>
\nEach year, as the year nears an end, news organizations and others, post their selections for “photos of the year” from the year about to end.<\/p>\n

Educators could engage\u00a0students by having them\u00a0select one (or more) of the \u00a0images and conduct research into the background of the image.<\/p>\n

Questions to consider:
\nWhat makes a particular image “the best”?
\nWhy did this organization choose this image?
\nWhat criteria did they use to determine “the best”?
\nAre there other images, from the year that’s just ended, that did not make the cut, and why?<\/p>\n

Students could compare-and-contrast selections from US-based companies versus those groups that are not US-based.<\/p>\n

Educators can use\u00a0these images to teach both “visual literacy” as well as “how to close read an image.” \u00a0Consider using either this Photo Analysis Worksheet<\/strong><\/a> or the Explain The Image<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0handout (page 8 in this pdf)\u00a0with your students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
