Students apply thinking skills to their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing. In order to meet this standard students will: make predictions, analyze, draw conclusions, and discriminate between fact and opinion in writing, reading, speaking, listening, and viewing<\/p>\n

-use reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing to define and solve problems evaluate the reliability, accuracy and relevancy of the information<\/p>\n

Students read to locate, select, and make use of relevant information from a variety of media, reference, and technological sources<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\u00a0Social Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n

As students in grades 5-8 extend their knowledge, what they know and are able to do includes:<\/p>\n

-distinguishing between primary and secondary sources;<\/p>\n

-interpreting the data in historical maps, photographs, art works, and other artifacts;<\/p>\n

-and examining data for point of view, historical context, bias, distortion, or propaganda<\/p>\n

As students in grades 9-12 extended their knowledge, what they know and are able to do includes<\/p>\n

-explaining how historical descriptions, arguments and judgments can reflect the bias of the author and\/or the prevailing ideas of the culture and time period;<\/p>\n

-interpreting oral traditions and legends as histories;<\/p>\n

-evaluating data within the social, political, and economic context in which it was created, testing its credibility, and evaluating its bias; and<\/p>\n

-comparing and contrasting reliability of information received from multiple sources.<\/p>\n
