font-size: small;\">What is our role as spectators in identifying with, or questioning what we see and hear?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>-watch and deconstruct ads on video (see links in left column)<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>-listen as other students participate in the process of understanding the media&#8217;s role in\u00a0political advertising<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Preparing students:<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b>&#8211; ask students to read some of the TIMELY NEWS ARTICLES\u00a0 in order to<br \/>\nhave sufficient background on the topic<br \/>\n<\/span>&#8211;\u00a0 <span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">ask students to read the list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankwbaker.com\/mediaquotes.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QUOTES<\/a> about political advertising and discuss their reactions<br \/>\n<\/span>&#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"> ask students to brainstorm the question: how &amp; why do candidates use the media?<br \/>\n&#8211; ask students what they know about political advertising<br \/>\n&#8211; do they remember any of the images, words, or phrases from any of the current &#8220;spots&#8221;\u00a0being broadcast?<br \/>\n&#8211; ask students to think about conventional advertising and the various <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20050227182815\/http:\/reta.nmsu.edu\/traincd\/media\/tools.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">techniques of persuasion <\/a>\u00a0it uses?<br \/>\nhow do these techniques compare with those used in political campaign advertising?<br \/>\n&#8211;
