Researchers at Brigham\u00a0and Women&#8217;s Hospital in Boston found that the more adolescent and pre-adolescent girls read fashion magazines, the more likely they were to diet\u00a0and to feel unhappy about their bodies. Researchers at the University of Michigan\u00a0and Boston College found that while African-American girls ignored images of\u00a0skinny white female bodies on television and elsewhere, they were concerned\u00a0about their inability to match white standards of hair and skin color.&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/opinion\/editorials\/2006-01-18-blonde-edit_x.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;.unrealistically thin young women are often used in advertisements for everything\u00a0from soft drinks to cars&#8230;.. previous research has already shown that such advertising\u00a0contributes to negative body images among young girls and women.&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankwbaker.com\/body_image_research.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Males impacted: &#8220;&#8221;Action figures present subtle messages of unrealistic role models of\u00a0well-sculpted, heavily muscled, &#8216;perfect&#8217; bodies that little boys see as their role models.&#8221; Sondra Kronberg, director and co-founder of Eating Disorder Associates Treatment &amp; Referral Centers (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2005\/10\/25\/health\/webmd\/main972825.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">source<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Body dissatisfaction can produce extreme body-shaping behaviors, such as eating disorders.\u00a0Women and girls can&#8217;t help being exposed to ultra-thin models in advertising whose body size\u00a0is unrealistic and unhealthy.
