3rd grade

create an age appropriate media literacy product that reflects understanding of format and characteristics.

4th grade

create an age appropriate media literacy product that reflects understanding of format, characteristics and purpose.

5th grade

create an age-appropriate media product that demonstrates format, purpose, and audience.

11th grade

plan, compose, produce and evaluate an age appropriate product from various forms of media communication that demonstrates an understanding of format, purpose, audience, and choice of medium.

12th grade

identify, evaluate, and analyze information (e.g., primary and secondary sources, print and electronic media, personal interview) and recognize the concepts of intellectual property and plagiarism in all media (e.g., media copyright laws, private/public domain).

 

critique and create examples of the wide range of purposes embedded in media communications.
plan, compose, produce, evaluate, and revise an age appropriate product from various forms of media communication that demonstrates an understanding of format, purpose, audience, and choice of medium.

Social Studies

4th grade
analyze communications techniques that impact consumer choices (e.g., print/nonprint, advertisement, media).

8th grade
research and describe how special interest groups and the media influence government and the law-making process in West Virginia

12th grade
assess the influence of the media on public opinion and on the decisions of government officials.

Health/Prevention

Standard 4:  Culture, Media and Technology (HE.S.4)

Students will:

analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health.

HE.4.2.2  identify health related products advertised on TV (or through other media) and explain whom the media is trying to influence.

HE.4.4.2 discuss examples of food advertising, identifying the purposes and the relationship to personal healthHE.4.4.3 list TV programs that exemplify healthy family relationships and explain their selection.
HE.5.4.1      explain how risk behaviors as seen on TV and movies may influence a student’s future behaviors.

HE.5.4.2            explain peer and media impact upon common eating disorders and how to prevent them.
