All Media start as Writing: Media Literacy for the 21st Century
Description:
Media is the world of our students; yet today’s curriculum virtually ignores it.
Many teachers are not comfortable teaching with popular culture or youth media.
Jim Burke (The English Teachers Companion) urges all teachers to embrace teaching with media—or risk becoming obsolete.  Using hands-on, engaging and relevant activities, Frank Baker guides educators in ways that help them feel comfortable teaching with AND about the media.

Frank,

I’m thinking ahead to next year….  what do you think your cost would be on a day at Walhalla Elementary in
Oconee County SC, working with 4th & 5th graders and teachers?   Other area schools might be interested as
well if it helps to be in an area for several days.  I need a ballpark price so I can plead my case!Picked up a
copy of one of your Media Literacy books through Capstone at the SCASL conference.  JUST what we needed!
I’ll be ordering the rest. Keep up the good work!

Frank,
I have had the pleasure of hearing you twice and am interested in pursuing the notion that you could possibly
come to our school sometime during the 07-08 school year.  Pocalla Springs is located in Sumter School District
Two in Sumter County.  The student population is 1,035.  I would be interested in a 1 or 2 day booking to work with 4th-5th graders in workshops and maybe everyone in assemblies (3) and then working with teachers in an in-service after school.  Please contact me soon so I can begin the process here.
Thanks,
Donna K. Myles
