Chapin Elementary School, Chapin, SC
Library Media Specialist: Angela D. Bardin
Background: This group of ten students meet each week for an hour to
study media literacy.
We started out by comparing how two different authors presented the story "Rapunzel."
The two versions were very different. These students have also recently
studied the
Sunday State newspaper comparing the number of articles written about men
versus
the number of articles written about women. They then brain stormed as to
why they
thought the State included more articles about men's sports teams rather than
women's
sports teams.
Project Description: The
bulletin board is a web showing a person thinking of an idea,
a person making the media and different types of media - newspaper, videotape, computer
program, magazine and
book. The students are so proud of their work. Students from
other classes have
come to me to find out when they can work on media literacy. It's exciting!

This is a close up of the bulletin board.

These are the students who designed and made their
bulletin board on "All Media Is Created."
