Headline Writing

On December 4, 2006, the American Academy of Pediatrics released a new policy position
regarding advertising to children and adolescents. The policy was published in the regular
Pediatrics Journal.

What follows are some of the headlines posted on Yahoo News and Google News. Notice
how each news organization promoted the story. ( Links to stories will expire at least
one to two weeks after early December.) Students might be encouraged to read
the policy and write their own headlines. Compare and contrast how different news
organizations chose words or phrases. Does each headline tell the reader everything
they need to know?
